This paper presents a theoretical review to understand the phenomenon of creation of memory, through the audiovisual, from the family institution. Starting with a review of the state of the art of family filmmaking and how it fits into the contemporary practice of cinema. Following an outline of these practices in Colombia. Finally, reflections on the research work currently advancing her author conducive to building a memory mapping in Colombia from the family institution through audiovisual.
