Abstract

PENA GONZALEZ, Rodrigo. Criminal publishing production in Michoacan, in the search of legitimacy and criminal authority. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.46, pp.502-524.  Epub June 30, 2024. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.1294.

This article analyzes a corpus of six texts written and published under the “publishing house” of two criminal organizations in Michoacan, Mexico, including a press release, an autobiography, a code of conduct, a journalist narrative, an advertising text and a motivational text, focused on the search of political legitimacy by criminal organizations. This article argues that, in spite of the heterogeneity in narrative styles, this corpus has a single political message: a discourse of legitimacy linked to a project to build criminal authority. Firstly, the idea of legitimacy and criminal authority is analyzed, then the context of legitimacy crisis and authority experienced in Michoacan and Mexico is addressed; next, each text, its characteristics and purposes are analyzed. Finally, the results are discussed and some ideas are considered as a conclusion.

Keywords : advertising; criminal authority; criminality; legitimacy; Michoacan; publications.
