Fabián Severo is one of the most important writers of Latin American literature in portuñol. His poetic and narrative works have been recognized by the most important prizes of Uruguayan literature. In this interview, Severo reflects on the place of portuñol as a territory, daily life and social conditions on the border, and the prominence of women in his life and work. He approaches the concept of literary smugling and the musical influences on his narrative. Finally, he delves into the place occupied by memories in the collective imaginary of border populations.
