Abstract

AVILA MORENO, MARYURI ZELAIDA. THE PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM BASED ON THE VAN HIELE MODEL: A DIDACTIC PROPOSAL FOR DEVELOPING MATHEMATICAL REASONING COMPETENCES IN NINTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION ANNA VITIELLO. Zona prox. [online]. 2019, n.30, pp.33-62.  Epub Mar 30, 2020. ISSN 2145-9444.  https://doi.org/10.14482/zp.30.373.

The presence of qualitative research in the classroom, through action research, created the need to help the ninth-grade students of the Institución Educativa Anna Vitiello "Hogar Santa Rosa de Lima", (from now on: AV-HSRL), to develop their mathematical reasoning competence through the learning of the Pythagorean theorem based on the Van Hiele Model.

For this purpose, a diagnostic test, seven class sessions and a final test were designed, all of them meeting the standards established by the Ministry of National Education and implementing some pedagogical strategies based on the 5 levels of geometric thinking developed in the Van Hiele Model.

The results of this test suggest the need to teach mathematical skills through collaborative activities that can involve and encourage students to developing their geometric reasoning.

Keywords : Competence; mathematical skills; mathematical reasoning; Pythagorean theorem; Van Hiele Model; collaborative learning.
