Abstract

SAENZ CASTRO, Diana Paola  and  TORO VELEZ, Sebastian. Improvement actions for high school education based on the analysis of saber 11 results. Prax. Saber [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.39, pp.1-.  Epub Nov 20, 2023. ISSN 2216-0159.  https://doi.org/10.19053/22160159.v14.n39.2023.14617.

In order to improve school education, it is necessary to know the students' results on the Saber 11 tests (Colombia's secondary-level evaluation test). This includes the differences in scores, as well as the statistical correlations between the results and the personal, family, socioeconomic, and academic characteristics of each student. This sequential mixed study explores the perceptions and education improvement proposals made by teachers from a technical middle school located in the southwestern region of Colombia. The project took place between 2017 and 2020 after the teachers were informed of the results their students obtained on the Saber 11 Test. Once the teachers analyzed the results, they were able to find significant differences in the mean scores when the data were grouped according to the beforementioned analysis categories. The results also evidenced a strong positive correlation between mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences. This showed the need for the teachers to recognize the life circumstances of the students and the factors that affect their education. The study emphasizes the teachers' proposals to develop skills among their peers that allow them to analyze data, review the curriculum from different perspectives, strengthen the relationship between parents and the institution, make data-based decisions, and educate teachers on how to perform quantitative research.
