Esse trabalho teve por objetivo calcular o índice de Integridade Biótica (IIB), para uma área estuarina no Sul do Brasil, a partir de dados da comunidade de peixes e avaliar suas flutuações ao longo dos anos. Neste estudo foram estabelecidos quatro pontos para amostragem da ictiofauna, no estuário Saco da Fazenda em Itajaí-SC, em coletas mensais realizadas entre maio/2012 a abril/2013. As amostras foram triadas e os espécimes identificados até o nível taxonômico de espécie. O valor obtido para o Índice de Integridade Biótica incluiu 11 atributos, em quatro graus de degradação ao longo de um ano de amostragem. Os valores do IIB foram calculados e classificados em diferentes níveis para reconhecer suas variações temporais e espaciais. Foi calculado também o IIB utilizando os dados históricos (2000 a 2005), para mostrar as alterações em comparação com as investigações de campo recentes. En este estudio se establecieron cuatro puntos de muestreo de las poblaciones de peces en el estuario del Saco da Fazenda en el Itajaí-SC, en muestras mensuales tomadas durante el período mayo/2012 a abril/2013. Las muestras fueron examinadas y los especímenes identificados hasta el nivel taxonómico de especies. El valor obtenido para el índice de Integridad Biótica incluyó 11 atributos en cuatro grados de degradación de más de un ano de muestreo. Se calcularon y se clasifican los valores del IIB en diferentes niveles para reconocer sus variaciones temporales y espaciales. <body><![CDATA[<p><b>INTRODUÇ&Atilde;O</b></p>      <p>Regi&otilde;es estuarinas s&atilde;o ecossistemas com elevada produtividade prim&aacute;ria, que atuam como locais de alimenta&ccedil;&atilde;o, crescimento e abrigo para diversas esp&eacute;cies de crust&aacute;ceos e peixes de interesse econ&oacute;mico (Branco <i>et al., </i>2011). Entretanto, a crescente ocupa&ccedil;&atilde;o humana sem um planejamento adequado, tem provocado altera&ccedil;&otilde;es na paisagem costeira e no aporte de efluentes dom&eacute;sticos que comprometem a qualidade das &aacute;guas e a integridade destas esp&eacute;cies (Jackson <i>et al., </i>2001; Breine <i>et al., </i>2007). Como efeito do desenvolvimento nas &aacute;reas estuarinas tem ocorrido um aumento no interesse na identifica&ccedil;&atilde;o de indicadores de degrada&ccedil;&atilde;o dos ecossistemas que integrem as altera&ccedil;&otilde;es estruturais e funcionais (Breine <i>et al., </i>2010).</p>     <p>As tomadas de decis&otilde;es relacionadas &agrave; gest&atilde;o s&atilde;o fundamentadas em dados f&iacute;sicos e biol&oacute;gicos, onde os &iacute;ndices de Integridade Bi&oacute;tica (IIB) condensam as informa&ccedil;&otilde;es biol&oacute;gicas em dados quantitativos da condi&ccedil;&atilde;o ecol&oacute;gica do ambiente (Bryce <i>et al., </i>2002). Em 1981, Karr propôs o c&aacute;lculo de um &iacute;ndice de Integridade Bi&oacute;tica para avaliar a qualidade dos riachos utilizando a ictiofauna como indicador. A composi&ccedil;&atilde;o, riqueza de esp&eacute;cies e fatores ecol&oacute;gicos foram indicadas por Karr (1981) como as vari&aacute;veis que poderiam influenciar a integridade bi&oacute;tica.</p>      <p>A estrutura de uma comunidade de peixes requer que uma ampla diversidade de fun&ccedil;&otilde;es do ecossistema esteja intacta, permitindo processos como alimenta&ccedil;&atilde;o, descanso, reprodu&ccedil;&atilde;o e crescimento, desta forma, a diversidade de modos de vida e as diferen&ccedil;as de susceptibilidade ao estresse possibilitam que os efeitos da degrada&ccedil;&atilde;o sejam avaliados em diferentes escalas temporais (Hughes <i>et al., </i>2002; Akin <i>et al., </i>2003).</p>      <p>Diversas adapta&ccedil;&otilde;es e modifica&ccedil;&otilde;es das m&eacute;tricas (atributos) e pontua&ccedil;&otilde;es propostas por Karr (1981) foram desenvolvidas. A adapta&ccedil;&atilde;o de Gamon e Simon (2000) acrecentou atributos de guilda reprodutiva, abund&acirc;ncia, composi&ccedil;&atilde;o tr&oacute;fica e esp&eacute;cies tolerantes. O n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies das fam&iacute;lias Catastomidae e Centrarchidae foram substitu&iacute;das por Characiformes e Siluriformes por Pinto <i>et al. </i>(2006). Atributos como o n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies na coluna d'&aacute;gua, % de esp&eacute;cies ex&oacute;ticas, n&uacute;mero de peixes coletados por hora de amostragem tamb&eacute;m foram incorporados por Lyons <i>et al. </i>(1995).</p>      <p>A proposta inicial foi tamb&eacute;m modificada para ambientes marinhos com atributos para recifes de corais alterados pelos efeitos cumulativos da atividade humana (Jameson <i>et al., </i>2001), para invertebrados terrestres utilizando entre outros atributos, a riqueza de alguma taxa e se os valores diminuem com o aumento da perturba&ccedil;&atilde;o (Kimberling <i>et al., </i>2001).</p>     <p>Atributos j&aacute; foram adaptados para assembleias de aves (e.g. aves que se alimentam no solo/vegeta&ccedil;&atilde;o, n&uacute;mero de gran&iacute;voros, esp&eacute;cies de &aacute;reas abertas/florestas de con&iacute;feras) (Bryce <i>et al., </i>2002; Glennon e Porter, 2005; Coppedge <i>et al., </i>2006; O'Connell <i>et al., </i>2007), al&eacute;m da incorpora&ccedil;&atilde;o de outros componentes da biota aqu&aacute;tica, como macroinvertebrados (Brocksom <i>et al., </i>2002; Klemm <i>et al., </i>2003; Couceiro <i>et al., </i>2012) e anf&iacute;bios (Micacchione, 2002; Mack e Micacchion, 2006; Micacchione, 2011). Tamb&eacute;m existem registros de trabalhos que compararam os resultados do IIB para peixes, lagostim e anf&iacute;bios (Simon <i>et al., </i>2000) e para aves e anf&iacute;bios (Crewe e Timmermans, 2005).</p>     <p>Para ambientes estuarinos, macrobentos j&aacute; serviram como indicador do IIB, com atributos de diversidade de esp&eacute;cies, produtividade, composi&ccedil;&atilde;o e n&iacute;vel tr&oacute;fico e distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o de profundidade abaixo da interface sedimento-&aacute;gua (Weisberg <i>et al., </i>1997). A adapta&ccedil;&atilde;o de Borja <i>et al. </i>(2000), para macrobentos, usou como atributos a sensibilidade/indiferen&ccedil;a das esp&eacute;cies ao enriquecimento org&acirc;nico, esp&eacute;cies tolerantes ao excesso de mat&eacute;ria org&acirc;nica e esp&eacute;cies oportunistas.</p>     <p>Peixes tamb&eacute;m foram utilizados para o c&aacute;lculo de IIB em ambientes estuarinos, sendo abund&acirc;ncia, domin&acirc;ncia de esp&eacute;cies, n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies residentes e esp&eacute;cies que desovam no estu&aacute;rio alguns dos atributos utilizados por Hughes <i>et al. </i>(2002). J&aacute; Breine <i>et al. </i>(2010) adaptaram diferentes atributos para cada zona de salinidade avaliando os diferentes locais que foram classificados com base em indicadores antropog&ecirc;nicos (m&eacute;dia m&iacute;nima de oxig&eacute;nio dissolvido, bentos, atividades industriais e portu&aacute;rias, presen&ccedil;a e ausencia de dragagens). Atributos como a fun&ccedil;&atilde;o do estu&aacute;rio como ber&ccedil;&aacute;rio e a integridade tr&oacute;fica por regi&atilde;o espec&iacute;fica (subtropical, frio, quente) foram algumas das adapta&ccedil;&otilde;es propostas por Harrison e Whitfield (2006).</p>     <p>A primeira adapta&ccedil;&atilde;o do IIB no Brasil foi para uma comunidade de peixes do rio Para&iacute;ba do Sul (RJ) onde Characiformes, Siluriformes e Perciformes foram utilizados como um dos indicadores de qualidade (Ara&uacute;jo, 1998). O n&uacute;mero de categorias tr&oacute;ficas e as condi&ccedil;&otilde;es do entorno (mata ciliar, unidades de conserva&ccedil;&atilde;o) foram consideradas por Bastos e Abilhoa (2004). J&aacute; Bozzetti e Schulz (2004) substitu&iacute;ram o n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies nativas pela riqueza de esp&eacute;cies e consideraram o n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies na coluna d'&aacute;gua como um indicador de degrada&ccedil;&atilde;o. O n&uacute;mero de Characiformes e Siluriformes e a porcentagem de <i>Geophagus brasiliensis </i>foram adapta&ccedil;&otilde;es propostas por Terra <i>et al. </i>(2005). Ferreira e Cassati (2006) usaram atributos como: abund&acirc;ncia de <i>Poecilia reticulata, </i>domin&acirc;ncia (&iacute;ndice de Simpson) e % de indiv&iacute;duos que se abrigam na vegeta&ccedil;&atilde;o marginal, entre outros. O n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies de Characiformes, Siluriformes, Perciformes, Gymnotiformes, o percentual de forrageamento na &aacute;rea e de esp&eacute;cies de piracema foram as adapta&ccedil;&otilde;es de Ferreira e Andrade (2012).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Todos esses &iacute;ndices s&atilde;o ferramentas que podem ser utilizadas pelos tomadores de decis&otilde;es, pois avaliam as mudan&ccedil;as no estado de um ecossistema como resultado de resposta de gest&atilde;o (Pinto <i>et al., </i>2009). Esse trabalho teve por objetivo calcular o &iacute;ndice de Integridade Bi&oacute;tica (IIB), para uma &aacute;rea estuarina no Sul do Brasil, a partir de dados da comunidade de peixes e avaliar suas flutua&ccedil;&otilde;es ao longo dos anos.</p>      <p><b>MATERIAL E M&Eacute;TODOS</b></p>      <p><b>&Aacute;rea de estudo</b></p>      <p>O Saco da Fazenda &eacute; um corpo de &aacute;gua costeiro na &aacute;rea urbana do munic&iacute;pio de Itaja&iacute;/SC, sendo reconhecido como ba&iacute;a Afonso Wippel atrav&eacute;s da promulga&ccedil;&atilde;o do Decreto Municipal n&deg; 4.063 (Itaja&iacute;, 2004). A sua &aacute;rea &eacute; estimada em 0,7km<sup>2</sup> com uma oscila&ccedil;&atilde;o no n&iacute;vel da mar&eacute; entre 0,4-1,2m (quadratura e siz&iacute;gia respectivamente) e com um regime de micro-mar&eacute;s misto e hegemonia semi-diurna (Schettini, 2008; Schettini, 2009). As primeiras obras de retifica&ccedil;&atilde;o do canal de acesso ao Porto de Itaja&iacute; ocorreram entre os anos de 19061935, entre elas as que resultaram na atual configura&ccedil;&atilde;o do Saco da Fazenda (Vargas, 1935). Por estar localizada no baixo estu&aacute;rio do rio Itaja&iacute;-A&ccedil;u a &aacute;rea recebe um aporte de sedimentos/efluentes provenientes do rio; al&eacute;m de efluentes dom&eacute;sticos do bairro consolidado em suas margens, bem como uma contribui&ccedil;&atilde;o das &aacute;guas do ribeir&atilde;o Schneider que des&aacute;guam na &aacute;rea (Branco, 2000; Theis e Fernandes, 2002). O ac&uacute;mulo de sedimentos tornou-se "natural" o que ocasionou a necessidade de obras de dragagem entre os anos 2000-2003 que alteraram a hidrodin&acirc;mica (Ara&uacute;jo <i>et al., </i>2009). O Decreto n&deg; 8.513 (Itaja&iacute;, 2008), designou a &aacute;rea como uma Unidade de Conserva&ccedil;&atilde;o Municipal - APA Saco da Fazenda, que &eacute; administrada pela Funda&ccedil;&atilde;o Municipal de Meio Ambiente de Itaja&iacute; - FAMAI.</p>      <p><b>Coleta e an&aacute;lise dos dados</b></p>      <p>O c&aacute;lculo do IIB, para o Saco da Fazenda, utilizou as bases de dados mais antigas dispon&iacute;veis sobre a ictiofauna local, que compreende amostragens mensais realizadas entre os anos de 2000 a 2005 que foram agregados em dados anuais (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>) (Branco <i>et al., </i>2009; Barreiros <i>et al., </i>2009; Branco <i>et al., </i>2011). Essas amostragens mensais tiveram continuidade com dados obtidos entre maio/2012 a abril/2013 por este trabalho. Os pontos de amostragens foram escolhidos em raz&atilde;o do acesso e representatividade no ambiente, utilizando os mesmos m&eacute;todos (periodicidade, esfor&ccedil;o e petrechos) que os trabalhos anteriores (<a href="#f1">Fig. 1</a>).</p>      <p align="center"><a name="f1"><img src="img/revistas/abc/v21n1/v21n1a03f1.jpg"></a></p>       <p>A captura dos peixes foi realizada com uma tarrafa (25 mm de malha entre n&oacute;s opostos) e uma rede de espera do tipo feiticeira (30 m com tr&ecirc;s panos, um central de 40 mm e dois laterais com 400 mm). Nos pontos 2, 3, 4 foram realizados 20 lances de tarrafa e no ponto 1 foi armada e mantida a rede de espera por 4 h, com intervalos de 2 h entre as despescas. O material coletado foi acondicionado em sacos pl&aacute;sticos etiquetados e mantidos sob refrigera&ccedil;&atilde;o. No laborat&oacute;rio os peixes foram identificados at&eacute; o n&iacute;vel de esp&eacute;cie com o aux&iacute;lio de bibliografia espec&iacute;fica (Cervig&oacute;n <i>et al., </i>1993; Nelson, 2006; Szpilman, 2008) e bases de dados online (<a href="http://www.marinespecies.org/" target="_blank">http://www.marinespecies.org/</a>; <a href="http://">http://</a> <a href="http://www.itis.gov/" target="_blank">www.itis.gov/</a>; <a href="http://www.fishbase.org/search.php" target="_blank">http://www.fishbase.org/search.php</a>). A nomenclatura e a ordena&ccedil;&atilde;o das fam&iacute;lias seguiram a designa&ccedil;&atilde;o proposta por Nelson (2006).</p>        <p><b>Crit&eacute;rios para uso do &Iacute;ndice de Integridade Bi&oacute;tica</b></p>     <p>Para o c&aacute;lculo do IIB &eacute; necess&aacute;rio &agrave; exist&ecirc;ncia de uma condi&ccedil;&atilde;o de refer&ecirc;ncia para avaliar a integridade do ecossistema (Karr, 1981; Karr <i>et al., </i>1986) e quando esta for inexistente &eacute; poss&iacute;vel a utiliza&ccedil;&atilde;o do dado hist&oacute;rico mais antigo dispon&iacute;vel (Fausch <i>et al., </i>1984; Lyons <i>et al., </i>2000; Bozzetti e Schulz, 2004; Zhu e Chang, 2008). Para a &aacute;rea de estudo o dado hist&oacute;rico mais antigo dispon&iacute;vel na literatura, &eacute; do ano de 2000 (Branco <i>et al., </i>2009).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Neste trabalho foram avaliados diversos atributos comumente utilizados na determina&ccedil;&atilde;o de IIB para regi&otilde;es estuarinas, como conceitos de guilda tr&oacute;fica e grupos funcionais (Gerking, 1994; Matthews, 1998; Elliott etal., 2007; Franco <i>et al., </i>2008), sensibilidade a a&ccedil;&otilde;es antropog&ecirc;nicas (Breine <i>et al., </i>2010) e fun&ccedil;&otilde;es ecol&oacute;gicas das diferentes partes do estu&aacute;rio (Courrat <i>et al., </i>2009; Franco <i>et al., </i>2008; Martinho <i>et al., </i>2008), analisando se os indicadores estabelecidos alcan&ccedil;am as metas ecol&oacute;gicas (Breine <i>et al., </i>2008; Breine <i>et al., </i>2010). Considerou-se um grande n&uacute;mero de poss&iacute;veis atributos baseado na proposta inicial do IIB de Karr (1981) e Karr <i>et al. </i>(1986), selecionando-se os mais consistentes por representarem de maneira equilibrada os n&iacute;veis ecol&oacute;gicos de indiv&iacute;duos, comunidades e ecossistema da &aacute;rea de estudo (<a href="#t1">Tabela 1</a>). Para as estimativas de vulnerabilidade, posi&ccedil;&atilde;o na coluna d'&aacute;gua e dieta foram utilizadas as informa&ccedil;&otilde;es dispon&iacute;veis em Froese e Pauly (2013).</p>      <p align="center"><a name="t1"><img src="img/revistas/abc/v21n1/v21n1a03t1.jpg"></a></p>       <p>A determina&ccedil;&atilde;o dos valores de cada atributo foi baseada na proposta de Schleiger (2000) e utilizada por Ferreira e Cassati (2006) que consiste em uma pontua&ccedil;&atilde;o superior a 75 % (boa) ou inferior a 25 % (ruim). Para cada porcentagem foi atribu&iacute;do um valor: 5 (75 %), 3 (25-75 %) e 1 (25 %). O IIB foi estabelecido pela m&eacute;dia destes valores e classificado em quatro categorias de qualidade do ambiente (Ferreira e Cassati, 2006). Para cada ano de amostragem se estabeleceu a m&eacute;dia do n&uacute;mero de pontos alcan&ccedil;ados em todos os atributos (<a href="#t1">Tabela 1</a>), incluindo os mesmos em uma das quatro categorias de integridade bi&oacute;tica (<a href="#t2">Tabela 2</a>).</p>         <p align="center"><a name="t2"><img src="img/revistas/abc/v21n1/v21n1a03t2.jpg"></a></p>        <p><b>RESULTADOS</b></p>      <p>Para o per&iacute;odo de 2000-2001 foram registradas 25 esp&eacute;cies de peixes pertencentes a 16 fam&iacute;lias, onde os Carangidae contribu&iacute;ram com a maior riqueza, seguido dos Engraulidae, Mugilidae, Gerreidae, Gobiidae, Cichlidae, Paralichthyidae (Branco <i>et al., </i>2009), sendo as esp&eacute;cies mais abundantes <i>Lycengraulis grossidens </i>(Spix e Agassiz, 1829), <i>Mugil liza </i>(Valenciennes, 1836), <i>M. curema </i>(Cuvier e Valenciennes, 1836) (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>). Entre 2001-2002, esses autores registraram 14 fam&iacute;lias e 25 esp&eacute;cies, com destaque dos Paralichthyidae e Sciaenidae, e das esp&eacute;cies <i>M. curema, M. liza</i> e <i>Genidensgenidens </i>(Cuvier, 1829) (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>). Em 2002-2003, ocorreram 15 fam&iacute;lias e 25 esp&eacute;cies, com o predom&iacute;nio dos Carangidae, Mugilidae e Clupeidae, onde <i>Diapterus rhombeus </i>(Cuvier, 1829), <i>Harengula clupeola </i>(Cuvier, 1829) e <i>L. grossidens </i>dominaram as amostragens (Branco <i>et al., </i>2009; <a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>).</p>     <p align="center"><a name="t3"><img src="img/revistas/abc/v21n1/v21n1a03t3.jpg"></a></p>       <p>Nos anos de 2003-2004 foram identificadas 21 fam&iacute;lias e 42 esp&eacute;cies, com destaque para Carangidae, Sciaenidae e Gerridae, e das esp&eacute;cies <i>M. curema, H. clupeola </i>e <i>Eucinostomus melanopterus </i>(Bleeker, 1863) (Barreiros <i>et al., </i>2009; Branco <i>et al., </i>2011) (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>). Para os anos de 2004-2005, ocorreram 21 fam&iacute;lias e 36 esp&eacute;cies, com as maiores contribui&ccedil;&otilde;es dos Gerreidae, Scianidae, Gobiidae, Carangidae e Mugilidae, e de <i>M. curema, M. liza </i>e <i>Cetengraulis edentulus </i>(Cuvier, 1829) (Branco <i>et al., </i>2011) (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>). J&aacute; em 2012-2103 foram registradas 17 fam&iacute;lias, distribu&iacute;das em 34 esp&eacute;cies, onde os Gerreidae e Mugilidae contribu&iacute;ram com a maior riqueza, seguido dos Carangidae, Engraulidae, Clupeidae, Gobiidae, e dom&iacute;nio de <i>M. liza </i>(n = 249), <i>M. curema </i>(n = 148) <i>C. edentulus </i>(n = 105) (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>).</p>      <p>Das 52 esp&eacute;cies registradas, ao longo dos per&iacute;odos analisados, 17 foram encontradas em todas as amostragens 11 esp&eacute;cies em anos espec&iacute;ficos e as demais esp&eacute;cies oscilaram entre duas e cinco ocorr&ecirc;ncias ao longo do total das amostragens (<a href="#t3">Tabela 3</a>). Estes resultados indicam que as comunidades ao longo do tempo podem variar em sua composi&ccedil;&atilde;o e abund&acirc;ncia relativa, em decorr&ecirc;ncia de condi&ccedil;&otilde;es hidrol&oacute;gicas do sistema, sazonalidade, &aacute;rea amostrada e gradientes de salinidade (Y&aacute;nez-Arancibia e Nugent, 1977).</p>     <p>Os valores de IIB oscilaram ao longo do per&iacute;odo amostral, sendo menores (2,8) no in&iacute;cio das amostragens (2000-2001 e 2001-2002) e no final (2012-2013) indicando um ambiente pobre. Nos anos intermedi&aacute;rios os &iacute;ndices IIB foram maiores alterando a categoria para regular entre 2002-2003 (3,0); 2003-2004 (3,4) e 3,0 em 2004-2005 (<a href="#f2">Fig. 2</a>).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p align="center"><a name="f2"><img src="img/revistas/abc/v21n1/v21n1a03f2.jpg"></a></p>       <p><b>DISCUSS&Atilde;O</b></p>      <p>A assembleia de peixes do Saco da Fazenda quando comparada a pesquisas desenvolvidas em regi&otilde;es pr&oacute;ximas, indica a ocorr&ecirc;ncia de algumas esp&eacute;cies em comum, apesar das diferen&ccedil;as hidrol&oacute;gicas e metodol&oacute;gicas. Com a regi&atilde;o da foz do rio Itaja&iacute;-A&ccedil;u, o Saco da Fazenda apresenta 13 fam&iacute;lias e 25 esp&eacute;cies comuns (Hostim-Silva <i>et al., </i>2002; Hostim-Silva <i>et al., </i>2009). No manguezal do rio Cambori&uacute; (27&deg;00'-32&deg;12' S e 48&deg;36'-35&deg;74' W), 11 fam&iacute;las e 21 esp&eacute;cies s&atilde;o comuns ao Saco da Fazenda (Rodrigues <i>et al., </i>1994). Para a ba&iacute;a da Babitonga (26&deg;02'-26&deg;28' S e 48&deg;28'-48&deg;50' W) em um primeiro trabalho foram registradas 8 fam&iacute;lias e 2 esp&eacute;cies em comum (Hostim-Silva <i>et al., </i>1998) em outro estudo, 15 fam&iacute;lias e 30 esp&eacute;cies (Freitas e Valastim, 2010; Cremer <i>et al., </i>2012) e em outro 18 esp&eacute;cies s&atilde;o tamb&eacute;m encontradas no Saco da Fazenda (Souza-Concei&ccedil;&atilde;o <i>et al., </i>2013).</p>      <p>As altera&ccedil;&otilde;es entre a integridade das classes de IIB (pobre e regular) pode estar associada &agrave; ocupa&ccedil;&atilde;o desordenada do entorno, ao lan&ccedil;amento de efluentes ou as repetidas dragagens (Schettini, 2002; Ara&uacute;jo <i>et al., </i>2009; Schettini, 2009; Schettini e Truccolo, 2009; Silveira e Resgalla Jr., 2009). Entretanto, o incremento de esp&eacute;cies (2002-2005) e a consequente eleva&ccedil;&atilde;o &agrave; categoria regular, indicam que as altera&ccedil;&otilde;es na hidrodin&acirc;mica resultantes da dragagem do Saco da Fazenda entre 2000-2003 (Ara&uacute;jo <i>et al., </i>2009) poderia ter beneficiado a assembleia de peixes, pois apesar da destrui&ccedil;&atilde;o dos habitats e da mortalidade houve um acr&eacute;scimo no n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies, ap&oacute;s o per&iacute;odo de instabilidade possivelmente influenciado pelo aumento da profundidade e melhoria dos padr&otilde;es de circula&ccedil;&atilde;o local (Branco <i>et al., </i>2009).</p>     <p>Entre 2003-2005 ocorreu um aumento no n&uacute;mero de esp&eacute;cies com baixa vulnerabilidade o que pode estar associado a uma "resposta" a situa&ccedil;&otilde;es de estresse originadas por perturba&ccedil;&otilde;es ambientais (Scott <i>et al., </i>1986). As varia&ccedil;&otilde;es nos resultados dos atributos podem estar relacionadas &agrave;s diferen&ccedil;as f&iacute;sicas e estruturais do habitat, como a profundidade, tipo de substrato e salinidade que n&atilde;o foram medidas (Marciano <i>et al., </i>2004).</p>     <p>Mas essa rela&ccedil;&atilde;o deve ser cautelosa, pois os valores de IIB obtidos em 2012-2013 indicam o retrocesso &agrave; condi&ccedil;&atilde;o inicial de refer&ecirc;ncia, j&aacute; que estudos estuarinos t&ecirc;m demonstrado uma rela&ccedil;&atilde;o direta entre os valores de IIB e as atividades antropog&ecirc;nicas (Angermeier e Karr, 1994; Deegan <i>et al., </i>1997; Whitfield e Elliott, 2002; Harrison e Whitfield, 2006).</p>     <p>Por outro lado, quando comparamos a abund&acirc;ncia total ao longo do per&iacute;odo amostral, constata-se uma aparente rela&ccedil;&atilde;o entre estes valores e os resultados das pontua&ccedil;&otilde;es finais das classes de integridade, onde a contribui&ccedil;&atilde;o em 2000-2001, 2001-2002 e 2002-2003 oscilou entre 8711.332 exemplares e as suas pontua&ccedil;&otilde;es no IIB foram 2,8 e 3,0. Nos anos de 2003-2004 e 2004-2005 foram de 3,3185,033 exemplares e um IIB de 3,4 e 3,0, respectivamente. Por&eacute;m, Hued e Bistoni (2005) relatam que a abund&acirc;ncia n&atilde;o esteve diretamente associada &agrave; qualidade do local em ambientes degradados da Argentina, gerando d&uacute;vidas nos resultados obtidos. Ao contr&aacute;rio de Lyons <i>et al. </i>(1995) que no M&eacute;xico, consideram os dados de abund&acirc;ncia importantes em locais com diferentes n&iacute;veis de degrada&ccedil;&atilde;o.</p>     <p>Segundo Zhu e Chang (2008) um per&iacute;odo amostral cont&iacute;nuo de seis anos, seria suficiente para a avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o de uma assembleia de peixes para ambientes impactados. Neste trabalho foi analisado um per&iacute;odo semelhante para o Saco da Fazenda, o que possibilitou estimar as altera&ccedil;&otilde;es temporais e espaciais da integridade local. As respostas dos ecossistemas, geralmente, est&atilde;o relacionadas &agrave;s altera&ccedil;&otilde;es ambientais imediatas ou pret&eacute;ritas. Pela sua natureza, estruturas dissipativas exibem um comportamento surpreendente, que n&atilde;o pode ser previsto <i>a priori </i>e pode ser catastr&oacute;fico (Kay, 1991).</p>     <p>Concordamos com a ideia de Ara&uacute;jo <i>et al. </i>(1998) e Bozzetti e Schulz (2004) que recomendam cautela na aplica&ccedil;&atilde;o e dedu&ccedil;&otilde;es baseadas em IBI, pois os valores individuais podem n&atilde;o refletir a din&acirc;mica dos sistemas biol&oacute;gicos. Nosso estudo mostrou que a diferen&ccedil;a na composi&ccedil;&atilde;o das esp&eacute;cies influenciou de maneira geral os resultados do IIB. A partir de nossas observa&ccedil;&otilde;es e de outros trabalhos, recomendamos o uso de IIB para analisar as condi&ccedil;&otilde;es biol&oacute;gicas e ecol&oacute;gicas de estu&aacute;rios no sul do Brasil.</p>     <p><b>CONCLUS&Atilde;O</b></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Este estudo foi realizado utilizando a ictiofauna do estu&aacute;rio do Saco da Fazenda com o objetivo de calcular o &iacute;ndice de Integridade Bi&oacute;tica (IIB) e avaliar suas flutua&ccedil;&otilde;es ao longo dos anos. Onze atributos foram utilizados para compor o c&aacute;lculo do IIB e avaliar as condi&ccedil;&otilde;es da &aacute;rea de estudo ao longo de seis anos, n&atilde;o cont&iacute;nuos, de amostragem. Os dados obtidos a partir desta s&eacute;rie temporal foram suficientes para uma primeira tentativa de um IIB modificado para a an&aacute;lise sobre as mudan&ccedil;as temporais da integridade bi&oacute;tica dentro do estu&aacute;rio Saco da Fazenda, refletindo adequadamente a situa&ccedil;&atilde;o do ambiente.</p>     <p>Os atributos utilizados neste trabalho podem servir como modelo para outras regi&otilde;es estuarinas que apresentem condi&ccedil;&otilde;es similares ou n&atilde;o. Entre uma regi&atilde;o ou outra pode existir uma grande varia&ccedil;&atilde;o na ecologia das esp&eacute;cies locais e das condi&ccedil;&otilde;es consideradas como minimamente impactadas, sendo necess&aacute;rio que se realizem adapta&ccedil;&otilde;es nos atributos para uma adequa&ccedil;&atilde;o das informa&ccedil;&otilde;es dispon&iacute;veis sobre o grupo de organismos indicador. O &iacute;ndice &eacute; um indicador valioso para que se tenha um entendimento entre as conex&otilde;es existentes entre o ambiente aqu&aacute;tico e as "atividades" que podem pertubar o seu equil&iacute;brio sendo uma ferramenta &uacute;til para o di&aacute;logo entre gestores, pol&iacute;ticos e outros grupos de atores envolvidos.
